Staying with my aunt and uncle in my home county of Essex, we have discovered the wonders of the area.
While wondering around a place called Canvey Island, we found a sad graveyard for discarded theme park rides near the seafront. The most prominent occupant being this creepy Humpty Dumpty statue…
From then on, we vowed to find more weird and creepy statues! We were not disappointed by the time we reached Southend.
It was a particularly gloomy and moody day at Southend-on-Sea, with waves of dark clouds bringing numbing rain, and sand-filled winds.
We battled the weather toward the adventure play park, where we found some more statues on par with the creepy Humpty Dumpty of Canvey Island…
We perused an award-winning beach:
And found peculiar signage.
Plus, we discovered Superman:
What a day!
Staying in Essex has been great. I went for a stroll through the woods where I used to ride my bike.
A peaceful wood full of squirrels, badger sets and/or fox dens.
In the middle of suburbia, we are surrounded by horseriding centres and places to have long walks through without seeing a single person.
Finally, we went on a photographic expedition to Hadleigh Castle.
Hadleigh Castle overlooks Canvey Island, and has information plaques all over the ruin explaining what was where back when it was a castle.
Although we didn’t last long there – it’s very exposed to the elements!
More to come from Essex!
